Compression Fracture Surgery

Kyphoplasty - Vertebroplasty (Compression Fracture) Surgery with Specialized Doctors

Also known as vertebral compression factor. It is a type of fracture in which the spinal bone is broken under impact and deformed by being crushed into it. Normally, the spinal column is very strong.  It has a compact and spongy structure.

Unlike other bones, cancellous bones are prone to compression fractures. This shard is very special because there are no broken pieces separated.  More spinal deformities occurred. It normally takes a very serious blow to break these spinal bones. But not just a blow, it is a factor in some diseases to break these bones.  For example, osteoporosis is seen especially in the elderly.  In addition, it can also be seen in the case of metastasis.

The most obvious symptom of a vertebral fracture is pain, a mechanical pain. In other words, the pain is exacerbated by movement and physical activities. Some patients may turn into a lying state while sitting in a chair. Diagnosis requires radiological imaging (MR-CT-X-TRAIL), additional investigations may be required if the patient has a tumor.

Treatment is usually medical treatment and corset after diagnosis. If it does not pass despite this, surgery is performed (vertebroplasty, kyphoplasty). In both procedures, biological cement is injected into the fracture.

If the patient has an oncological history, chemotherapy is regulated in drugs.

Epiduroscopic Interventions  (Closed Back Surgery)

It is an extremely low complication procedure. It is a procedure performed using a fiberoptic endoscope, which is applied to patients with lumbar hernia that does not go away despite taking physical therapy and losing weight. The procedure is applied by stretching the endoscope (the tip of which can be broken in all directions) through the opening (sacral hiatus) of the spinal canal located just above the coccyx.

It is usually done with local anesthesia. Bone structures and muscles are not damaged in the process. It is a process that takes about 30 minutes. It is especially preferred by patients who have chronic illness but cannot receive general anesthesia.  After the procedures, patients can continue their daily life. The pain goes away with time.  It is 30-50% for those who are successful.
